Tehran will not abide by the new resolution of the UN Security Council unanimously approved on Saturday, spokesman of the Iranian Parliament’s National Security and Foreign Policy Commission Kazem Jalali said on Sunday.
He described the new resolution as a statement intended to upkeep the prestige of the superpowers. “The resolution will add to the psychological war on Iran and remind the world of the Iranian nuclear problem,” Jalali noted.
“The transfer of the Iranian nuclear dossier to the UN Security Council was an illegal act pushed by the superpowers,” he said. As for the adoption of the latest resolution at the initiative of Moscow, Jalali said, “The Islamic Republic has always sought strategic relations with Russia.“
At the same time, the initiative “may cause a [negative] reaction of the Iranian public,” he said.
The new resolution of the UN Security Council may prompt a revision of the Iranian attitude to the nuclear negotiations with the sextet (five permanent members of the UN Security Council and Germany), Iranian Speaker Ali Larijani said earlier in the day.
“Sextet member countries apply double standards to Iran,” he said. “The treacherous behavior of the sextet, which resulted in the approval of another illogical anti-Iranian resolution, proved that the Iranian nuclear problem was politically motivated despite rejections by American politicians and had nothing to do with the law.”
On Saturday the UN Security Council unanimously adopted the resolution suggested by Russia. The resolution referred to previous documents of the UN Security Council, which stipulated sanctions against the Islamic Republic. It also confirmed the adherence of Security Council members to earlier decisions of the negotiators and further efforts of the kind.
The Security Council urged Iran to fulfill all resolutions concerning its nuclear program and the demands of the IAEA Board of Governors fully and without delay.
