Valdis Zatlers, the president of Latvia arrived to the capital of Turkmenistan with the first official visit, informed Turkmenistan State Information Agency (THD).
Meeting of Gurbanguly Berdymuhamedov and Valdis Zatlers took place in the Presidential Palace on October 7, 2008.

By the results of eight months of current year Latvia occupies 17 place in total amount of foreign trade of Turkmenistan - commodity circulation between two countries in comparison with the similar period of the last year has increased by 2.3 times. Turkmenistan exports to Latvia textile and agricultural products. Latvia mainly exports equipment and mechanisms, vehicles, metal wares, the foodstuffs, products of the chemical industry, reported TDH.
Two projects of Latvian companies in oil and gas industry for the total sum of 1 million US dollars were registered in Turkmenistan on September 1, 2008. "Kelk", the Latvian company carrying out wholesale trade is the only enterprise of the Latvian capital registered in Turkmenistan.
Questions of bilateral cooperation in political, economic and cultural areas, as well as the questions of a world policy representing mutual interest will be discussed during the summit. The special accent will be made on possibilities of partnership in view of activization of dialogue between Turkmenistan and European Union.
Bilateral contracts aimed to establish further partnership will be singed at the end of the meeting, reported TDH.
