DUSHANBE, October 3, Asia-Plus -- Tajik athletes have won 12 medals, including three gold, four silver and five bronze medals, in the 7th Asian Arm-Wrestling Championship in Almaty, Kazakhstan.
The competition was held on September 26-28 and athletes from nine countries, including Japan, Iran, Mongolia, Tajikistan, India, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, China and Uzbekistan, participated in it.
Speaking in an interview with Asia-Plus, Tajikistan’s Arm-Sports Association President, Mr. Nadirkhan Darigi, noted that 16 athletes from Gorno Badakhshan, Sughd and Dushanbe had represented Tajikistan in the championship. “Akmal Qodirov from Istaravshan won two gold medals and Husein Qurbonov from Khorog won the third gold medal for Tajikistan,” Darigi said.
According to him, the Asian Arm-wrestling Championship in Almaty was a qualification tournament for participation in the World Championships that will be held in Canada this year from December 1-6.
