KHUJAND, March 6, 2010, Asia-Plus -- Dilshod Qayumov from the city of Istaravshan, Sughd province has got a long jail term for drug trafficking.
A court in the northern city of Chkalovsk sentenced Dilshod Qayumov to 20 years in prison on March 5. The sentenced followed his conviction on the charges of drug trafficking. The court ruled that Qayumov would serve his term in a high-security penal colony.
Ms. Manzoura Mahmadova, chairperson of the Chkalovsk city court, told Asia-Plus that Qayumov was detained by drug control officers at the railroad station in Khujand on August 4, 2009 when he was trying to transport 20.254 kilograms of heroin in boxes with dried apricots to the Russian city of Orsk.
