DUSHANBE, February 16, 2011, Asia-Plus -- On Tuesday February 15, Mr. Yoshihiro Nakayama, Chargé d’Affaires of the Embassy of Japan in Dushanbe, and Mr. Makhsum Fozilov, chairman of Tojikobod district signed a grant contract for “The Project for Rehabilitation of Secondary School No.6 in Nushor Jamoat, Tojikobod District”.
According to the Japanese Embassy in Dushanbe, the Government of Japan will provide US$106,249 for the project which aims at improving educational environment of secondary school No.8 in the Nushor jamoat, Tojikobod district. The project includes the construction of new school building with six classrooms, rehabilitation of the existing building as well as the provision of educational equipment.
The existing school building is in inappropriate condition as it has not been rehabilitated since 1976. Moreover, students have to follow 3 shifts schedule as the school is not able to accommodate all students in 2 shifts schedule. It leads to deterioration of the educational environment for students since students and teachers have to go to school in the evening.
After implementation of the project, students will benefit the improved educational environment; clean and safe classrooms with appropriate school equipment as well as classes in 2 shifts which will allow students to study in better condition. As a result, students will be able to prepare themselves for further education effectively. In addition, this project will contribute to ensure the basic human rights on education in the Sari Pul village of the Nushor jamoat, Tojikobod district.
Grant Assistance for Grass-roots Human Security Projects (GGP) is provided to educational and medical institutions, NGOs, and local governments in developing countries. GGP supports projects in the human security sectors at the grassroots level. GGP has extended more than US$ 18.8 million for 262 projects in the Republic of Tajikistan since 1996.
