The ambitious National Green Country Program adopted by the Tajik Government last year provides for planting 65 million trees and shrubs in the country on an area of more than 4,000 hectares until the end of 2025.

A total cost of this program designed for 2023-2027 is 129.875 million somonis (more than 11.8 million US dollars)

The Tajik Government has reportedly adopted this program taking into consideration the global climate change and the necessity of development of green energy.

The program is being implemented into two stage: the first stage covers the period from 2023 to 2025 and 67.865 million somonis are allocated for implementation of this stage; the second stage cover the period from 2026 to 2027 and 62.01 million somonis are allocated for implementation of this stage.

The program provides for planting trees in all regions of the country.

Most fruit trees will be planted – they will be planted on an area of 420 hectares; dog-roses will be planted on an area of 370 hectares; and pine trees will be planted on an area of 325 hectares.

Five more types of trees will also be trending: poplars; white acacias; paulownias; thujas; and saxauls.

For each of these trees, land areas from 200 to 275 hectares are allotted.

Besides, decorative, evergreen and shady trees will be planted in Dushanbe on a total area of 20 hectares and on the hills in districtы adjacent to Dushanbe on a total area of 275 hectares.

The program also provides for planting trees and restoring the green belt in Dushanbe’s Ghalaba (Victory) Park on an area of 15 hectares.
