The CIS Games in Azerbaijan have just begun, and Tajikistan's team has already made a strong impression by securing its first medals.
The country's first medalists were the representatives of WT Taekwondo. Abdujafar Bahodur, competing in the 54 kg weight category, and Nurullo Murodov in the 74 kg category both claimed bronze medals. For both athletes, this achievement marks not only a personal success but also a significant contribution to the team's overall performance.
The winning streak continued with Sambo wrestlers. Nazarali Kholov (64 kg) and Yosin Hukumatov (71 kg) also earned bronze medals, further boosting the team's medal count.

A special moment for fans came during the opening ceremony, where Madina Qurbonzoda, a young judoka, proudly carried the flag of Tajikistan during the delegation parade.
A total of 1,605 athletes from 10 countries are competing in the 3rd CIS Games in Azerbaijan. Tajikistan’s delegation consists of 142 athletes.
This is Tajikistan’s third participation in the CIS Games. In 2021, the country finished with 14 medals and 7th place in the overall standings in Kazan, the capital of Russia’s Tatarstan Republic. Two years later, in the Belarus’s capital, Minsk, the results were more modest, with 13 medals and an 8th place finish out of 22 countries.
Ahead, Tajik athletes will compete in boxing, judo, freestyle and Greco-Roman wrestling, shooting, and team sports. Martial arts traditionally bring the country its highest medal tally.
